The combination of music, dance, performance, visual art and food made JESUS CLUB more than an ordinary night out. The organisers’ goals were to engender an open network of creatives who work in different fields, to provide a place for encounters and exchange, and to be a collision point between art and life. It stressed the club’s challenging intention to eliminate the boundary between artists and viewers. JESUS CLUB was a search for new presentation forms beyond that of ’stage-and-stalls’, in an attempt to bring back the fun, risk-taking element of the artistic process.

As part of the Tanz im August festival’s opening on August 12, 2011, Jeremy Wade curated the final 13th episode of Creature Feature. Creature Feature was a power house queer performance event, previously held at Basso Berlin. The event has been based on group participation. This celebration was the last event at the opening of Tanz im August at the Hau 2 theater in Berlin, Germany.

For this performance, a series of hand-painted billboards of inspirational, positive motivational messages were installed in the upper foyer of the Hau 2 Theater. Additionally, an edition of 300 hand printed pennant flags were distributed to the audience for an audience participation performance choreographed by Jeremy Wade.

Creature Feature #13 featured Jeremy Wade’s “Group Warm-up”, Florentina Holzing + Vincent Riebeek, Isabel Lewis, Jenn Joy, Dani Brown, Eike Wittrock, and Visual Artist Hannah Dougherty. These Artists exhibited raw unfinished works in progress, improvisations and lectures.

Himmelfahrtskommando is a celebration of the failed ambition of a group of German pioneers traveling across America during the westward expansion in 1846. While the journey of these pioneers might have ended in disaster and failure and ultimately cannibalism, we celebrate their ambition and drive. Aim high, young dreamers!

We begin with an empty gallery space. The performance consists of the installation of hundreds of objects made of wood, fur, electronics, etc, installed over the course of 4 hours on the evening of the opening. Loosely based on the first hand diary accounts of the Donner Party and their rescuers, the exhibited opera is accompanied by a libretto as well as composed sound installations, both interactive, performed, and stationary. Collaboratively, this work has been produced and performed by Hannah Dougherty Brendan Dougherty, Laura Bruce and Guido Henneböhl.
